Chronology of cameras Comptoir Photographique du Pont de Fer
Charles Conquérant presented himself as a camera manufacturer (SGDG). He was first located at 86 Boulevard de Magenta, then at 14 Boulevard Poissonnière, both in Paris. It is at this second address that one finds the Comptoir Photographique du Pont de Fer. The reason for the name "Pont de Fer" is unclear.
In 1894, Conquérant, then located at Boulevard de Magenta, registered his brand in the shape of the Cross of Lorraine (Lorraine and Alsace have been German since 1871), as well as the brand name "The Conqueror" (Conquérant... Conqueror).

A very lightweight, carefully constructed camera, equipped with two viewfinders and a superior achromatic lens with a shutter suitable for both timed exposures and snapshots. This camerais covered in top-quality morocco leather and comes with a handle featuring rings at both ends, allowing a strap to be attached for carrying the cameraover the shoulder.
The changing of plates is done by moving the lever placed on the side from bottom to top. The plate, driven by its own weight, falls to the bottom of the camera where it is held in place by springs. The lens is focused from a distance of 5 to 6 meters to infinity. The shutter is always cocked, and a screw with an index allows it to be set for timed or instantaneous exposure as desired. The camera is equipped with diaphragms and an automatic counter indicating the number of plates exposed.
